Commercial Refrigeration: How To Choose The Right Product

Whether it is a restaurant, snack bar or cafe, you need good commercial refrigeration equipment in order to help food stay fresh for as long as possible. The longer the food lasts, the longer you can serve it for, simple!

Before you rush out to make your purchase of whatever commercial refrigeration you need, consider the following:
Features

Make sure you know what everything does so you can differentiate between product variations properly. If you are new to commercial refrigeration, spend a bit of time looking into what each of the following are so that you can make a more informed decision:

  • temperature control
  • sub cooling/heating
  • temperature ranges
  • defrost controls
  • condenser
  • evaporator
  • lighting
  • humidity sensors
  • compressor
  • energy efficiency

Depending on what type of commercial refrigeration you are going for, certain features will be more important to consider than others. Also, the importance of certain factors will depend on your usage of the commercial refrigeration. For example, depending on what temperature your food needs to be stored, temperature ranges will need to be considered to accomodate for your needs.

Appearance

As with any catering equipment, looks are important. However, one could argue that when it comes to commercial refrigeration equipment it doesn't have to be top of the agenda. If the kitchen is out of site of cutsomers, then the appearance of the equipment is down to whether you and your staff are happy with it! That might sound a bit daft, but plenty people buy commercial refridgerators with a solid door and spend every day for the next 5 - 10 years wishing they had bought a one with a glass door so that they can easily locate items.

If your establishment has an open kitchen, then you may want to lean towards commercial refrigeration that is aesthetically pleasing, or at least the parts that can be seen. Half the job is keeping it all clean yourself though!

It is a safe bet to opt for stainless steel in all of your commercial refrigeration equipment, not too expensive and everything looks good if they blend together... even better if you keep them all looking shiny.

Dimensions
This may seem obvious, but when buying commercial refrigeration equipment, make sure you double and treble check the dimensions of the space where it will be placed. It is all too easy to under or over estimate how much available space you have. There's nothing worse than realising you could have paid a little extra for the bigger version of your fridge because it turns out you have enough room for it, but now you're stuck with a one which is too small, and you've empty space in your kitchen!
